About the Role Swinburne University of Technology invites applications for a research position within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav), working with the research group led by Professor Chris Blake. The successful applicant will undertake fundamental research in observational cosmology, with a focus on using the large-scale structure of the Universe and distance indicators to explore and refine the cosmological model. Candidates will be encouraged to pursue related independent research aligned with the goals of the group and the broader OzGrav Centre. Potential activities include cosmological analyses of galaxy peculiar velocity datasets, investigating correlations between large-scale structure and distance indicators to probe cosmological parameters, and improving distance-ladder methods using supernovae, standard sirens, or fast radio bursts. The candidate may also have the opportunity to join international collaborations such as DESI and 4MOST and will be part of the OzGrav team at Swinburne, collaborating with researchers across the national OzGrav network. This position can be offered at Academic Level A or B depending on qualifications and skills of the successful candidate. Responsibilities Conduct research in cosmological large-scale structure analysis and related observational cosmology topics. Analyze cosmological distance indicators including peculiar velocity datasets, supernovae, standard sirens, or fast radio bursts. Publish refereed research in collaboration with the OzGrav team. Apply statistical techniques and computational methods to cosmology data and simulations. Collaborate with national and international partners within the OzGrav network. Qualifications PhD in physics/astrophysics or closely related field, with research focuses in cosmological physics. Experience in cosmological large-scale structure analysis and distance indicators.
