Volunteer Walk Organisers wanted for Stockland Hervey Bay walking group Do you want to take an active role in helping members of the Hervey Bay community to improve their physical health, mental wellbeing and social connections? Stockland Hervey Bay shopping centre are starting a FREE walking group for their community, but they need your help Become a volunteer Walk Organiser and be part of something special – a new Heart Foundation Walking group at Stockland Hervey Bay. Stockland Hervey Bay shopping centre are looking to host a free walk weekday mornings, and are looking for one or two volunteer Walk Organisers to lead and manage the walk. You must enjoy walking, meeting new people and a post walk coffee/tea/drink The Stockland Hervey Bay shopping centre walking group will be set up as a Heart Foundation Walking group to enjoy all the benefits that come with the national walking program. Heart Foundation Walking is Australias largest FREE walking network. It’s a social, fun, and easy way for people to walk and be active. With more than one in four Australian adults doing very little or no exercise at all, Heart Foundation Walking is a great way to help people increase their physical activity. Heart Foundation Walking is designed to help people enjoy regular physical activity. As well as the physical benefits, walking as part of a group can benefit your mental health too Over the past 30 years more than 100,000 Australians have participated in a Heart Foundation Walking group, with over 90% of participants staying active after six months of joining. Walk Organisers come from all walks of life (pun intended). Walk Organisers enjoy the benefits of a healthier mind and body that come from regular walking and you’re also providing an invaluable opportunity for your community to join in a free, social and fun way to get healthy together Roles and responsibilities of a Walk Organiser are to: Complete basic online training (approx. 15 minutes) Undertake a National Police History Check (at the cost of the Heart Foundation) Set up a walking group (with assistance from the Heart Foundation) Plan a safe walking route (with assistance from Stockland Hervey Bay shopping centre) Promote the walk and gain new walkers (with assistance from the Heart Foundation and Stockland Hervey Bay shopping centre) Attend walks and welcome new walkers Enter attendance logs online to ensure your walkers get rewarded for their walking milestones What support does Heart Foundation Walking offer Walk Organisers? Recognition as a Heart Foundation volunteer Online training Free Heart Foundation t-shirt Walker recognition scheme which rewards and acknowledges walking milestones Walk Organisers are covered by the Heart Foundation’s volunteer insurance policy Free resources to promote the group Heart Foundation staff available to support Walk Organisers in promoting and managing their group Help get your community active and apply today Category : Recreation Commitment : Regular - more than 6 months Type Of Work : Companionship & Social Support,Sport & Physical Activity, Time Required : 45-60min walks each week depending on your availability.
