Maternal Early Childhood Health Program Coordinator – AHP (Aboriginal Health Practitioner) Location: Tennant Creek and surrounding Barkly region Employment conditions: Full Time Contract, dependent on external funding Salary: $115,674 – $123,054 per annum Benefits: $15,899.94 p/a salary packaging; $1,500 p/a professional development incentive; 6 weeks annual leave, 10 days personal/carer leave; free general dentistry; remote retention allowance $750; free prescriptions Eligibility: Position open only to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons. About the Role Oversee a multidisciplinary, community‑based approach to social and emotional well‑being through the Maternal Early Childhood Health Program. Provide assessment, support, advice and referral services to pregnant women, mothers, families and carers with children up to three years old in and around Tennant Creek, collaborating with RNs and external agencies. Key Responsibilities Introduce and establish the Maternal Early Childhood Health Program ensuring an integrated multidisciplinary primary health care approach. Maintain confidentiality and collaborate within a high‑performing multidisciplinary team. Respect Aboriginal values, beliefs, customs, language and traditional practices. Develop culturally appropriate and accessible health services for women and children. Contribute to policy and procedure development on child and maternal health home visits. Maintain patient file notes and medical histories. Take leadership roles within the Health Centre, ensuring culturally safe and appropriate service delivery. Consult and manage all clients, including case management and follow‑up. Provide sexual health and family planning counselling as appropriate. Prepare financial, performance, and compliance reports for the Executive and external funding bodies. Report on effectiveness of services and programs to meet organisational goals and regulatory standards. Manage staff and budgets. Work with Child and Maternal Health RNs to champion delivery of services in and around Tennant Creek. Deliver Child and Maternal Health services in the Program Centre and the community. Continue ongoing development of the Maternal Early Childhood Health Program to enhance culturally appropriate services. About You Demonstrate knowledge of Aboriginal culture, ability to deliver culturally responsive services, create and maintain accurate reports, and have experience in Aboriginal Health Services or similar. Remote community experience essential. Essential Skills and Experience Accredited qualifications: Certificate IV or Diploma in ATSI Primary Health Practice. Current AHPRA registration. Commitment to Aboriginal culture, values and beliefs. Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Leadership qualities. Teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment. Accurate record‑keeping. Current Driver’s License. Strong computer skills. Understanding of Health and Safety practices. OCHRE Card (Working with Children). Desirable Skills and Experience Understanding of health and social/cultural issues affecting indigenous women and children. Ability to speak one or more local Aboriginal languages. Additional Information Employment confirmation depends on successful application for an OCHRE/Working with Children Card and a satisfactory criminal history check.
