EL1 Quality Assurance Engineer, Data Standards Body 23h ago , from Australian Government The Treasury This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Data Standards Body (DSB) and across government to deliver high quality regulatory standards. The DSB supports the Data Standards Chair who is responsible for making the Data Standards that are necessary for the effective operation of Australia’s Digital ID System and the Consumer Data Right (CDR) regulatory frameworks. The DSB is part of Treasury’s Digital, Competition and Payments Division in Markets Group. Further information about the CDR and Digital ID Data Standards, for which the Data Standards Chair is responsible, can be found on the DSB’s website: Data Standards Body. The Data Standards set requirements for entities to build to and comply with in order to share data in compliance with the regulatory frameworks of the CDR and Digital ID. The DSB does not receive, store or analyse any data captured in accordance with the Data Standards. Key duties of the Position: Treasury is looking for an experienced Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to support the DSB’s testing, assurance and quality uplift initiatives. The QA Engineer lead the development of testing frameworks and assurance mechanisms and will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, implementability and consistency of technical standards and tooling across the CDR and Digital ID ecosystems. The QA Engineer would be expected to: Design, maintain and execute automated and manual test suites to validate standards changes, reference implementations, customer experience flows and other artefacts. Design test strategies, regression frameworks, data‑driven test harnesses and quality gates using modern automation tooling to ensure testing activities align with DSB’s strategic objectives. Assess and ensure quality of a range of standards‑related artefacts and documentation beyond platforms, tools or code. Work closely with product owners, architects, engineers, analysts and implementation‑support teams to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, support change impact analysis and embed quality assurance best‑practices throughout the phases of standards delivery. Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, documentation and overall governance of the standards development and delivery service. Contribute to planning, estimation and continuous improvement initiatives across the DSB. The QA Engineer will be required to establish consistent testing methodologies to support standards development, including: Defining repeatable test cases, validation/acceptance criteria and non‑functional testing approaches. Ensuring traceability between standards requirements and test coverage. Identifying quality risks, inconsistencies, defects and gaps in standards. Support continuous integration of automated tests. Desirable Qualifications / Experience The candidate must: Have industry experience with establishing or maturing QA frameworks, governance or quality gates using Agile quality‑assurance methodologies (e.g. Shift‑left testing, Risk‑based testing, BDD etc). Have substantial experience in quality assurance and testing for software, APIs or digital services, including designing and executing test strategies. Have practical experience with automation testing (particularly at the API or integration level) and be comfortable using modern testing tools and scripting to build and run automated tests. Demonstrate experience deriving test cases and coverage from requirements or specifications (e.g. standards, schemas, designs), including thinking through edge cases to ensure comprehensive coverage. Demonstrate experience producing and maintaining clear test documentation (such as test plans, test cases, regression suites, and defect reports), and ensuring traceability between requirements and tests. Have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to be able to validate requirements defined as flows, claims and behavioural rules as well as API Schemas, with particular attention to accuracy, reliability and consistency. Have strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to translate complex technical requirements and explain findings, risks and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, cross‑functional environment and manage competing priorities. Be comfortable working in a complex, regulatory environment. The candidate will be very well regarded if they can demonstrate: Experience working with CI/CD pipelines or test infrastructure (e.g. GitHub Actions, AWS/Azure Pipelines). Experience designing or maintaining test harnesses for conformance or compliance testing within regulated ecosystems Experience testing standards‑based systems using protocols such as OpenID Connect, OAuth2 or similar Experience working with artefacts such as OpenAPI Specifications, JSON Schema, conformance suites or similar Experience or familiarity with Digital ID, CDR or similar identity and/or data‑sharing ecosystems or regulatory domains An interest in digital regulation, technical standards and implementation support for industry.
