City of Melbourne, Österreich Samaritans Wa Vollzeit

About the Service The Luminos Project (TLP) provides early, compassionate intervention through a short‑stay residential model inspired by Maytree UK, which has operated successfully for over 20 years. The sanctuary offers a calm, home‑like space for up to five young people at a time, creating a setting where distress can be met with connection, safety, and understanding. Role Overview Overnight Support Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and caring environment for the young people accessing our service during the night. Working within the Samaritans WA model, you will offer emotional support, reflective listening, and companionship to young people staying at the sanctuary. Overnight volunteers help sustain the sense of calm and continuity essential to the service’s therapeutic atmosphere. Key Responsibilities Provide compassionate, non‑judgmental emotional support and active listening to young people who may be awake during the night. Create safety and stability through clear boundaries, warmth, and presence. Engage in reflective conversations that support meaning‑making and emotional regulation. Work collaboratively with TLP staff to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all guests overnight. Support the smooth handover process between night and morning staff. Participate in group debriefs, reflective practice, and supervision sessions. Commitment Two (2) overnight shifts per month, each approximately 8 hours in duration. Attendance at bimonthly 1.5‑hour group supervision sessions. Ongoing participation in reflective practice and skill development. Minimum six‑month commitment following completion of training. Who You Are We were looking for volunteers who are calm, reliable, and able to remain grounded in emotionally charged environments. You value empathy over problem‑solving and can hold space for silence and uncertainty. You understand that safety at night is as much about presence and relational connection as it is about observation and procedure. Essential Criteria Comfort engaging in emotionally open conversation with others. Passion for providing inclusive, approachable support to young people experiencing thoughts of suicide. Awareness of your own needs and limits, and capacity to seek support when needed. Commitment to personal and professional growth through reflective practice. Desirable Criteria Experience or training in mental health, crisis support, or community services. Compliance Requirements (prior to commencement) WA Working with Children Check. National Police Certificate (issued within the past 6 months). Category Mental Health Time Required Two 8‑hour overnight shifts per month. Training Volunteers will need to complete two half days of training prior to commencing. #J-18808-Ljbffr
