Principal Data (AI) Platform Engineer Contract role, Sydney based Immediate start (subject to clearance) Why this role exists Teams are currently spinning up their own SageMaker and Bedrock instances with inconsistent patterns and duplicated effort. The organisation is moving to a single, governed AI Workbench to speed up ML experimentation, support GenAI development, and provide a secure, enterprise scale platform. The role You will lead the technical build of the central AI Workbench, integrating AWS native services, establishing platform standards, enabling seamless data access, and uplifting capability within a small cross functional team. This is a delivery heavy role, not a pure architecture position. Key responsibilities Build and operationalise the ML Workbench, GenAI Workbench and Enterprise AI Platform Lead hands on engineering across SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, IAM, RDS, Teradata and related tooling Deliver monthly platform releases and a production ready platform by June 2025 Build IaC templates, CI CD pipelines, automation patterns and operational runbooks Translate requirements into actionable designs and sprint tasks Enable data access from Teradata and Oracle based systems Support onboarding of data scientists moving from unmanaged environments Define platform metrics, SLAs and cost optimisation frameworks Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Security and Engineering teams Mentor cloud and data platform engineers and uplift platform capability What you need 10+ years delivering enterprise Data or AI platforms Deep hands on AWS experience across SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, IAM and DevOps tooling Strong Terraform or CloudFormation and CI CD automation experience Proven history building ML or AI platform capabilities for data scientists Solid understanding of security, governance, monitoring and access control Ability to lead greenfield work, set standards and create reusable templates Exposure to LLM orchestration, prompt engineering or GenAI tooling is a plus Comfortable in fast moving, high change environments Strong communication and stakeholder skills #J-18808-Ljbffr
