Base pay range A$129,000.00/yr - A$174,000.00/yr Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi‑disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Duty Project Manager in Canberra to work on MIWS projects. What You’ll Do Project & Risk Management : Oversee schedules, budgets, resources, and risks while preparing reports, briefings, and submissions to meet organisational requirements. Technical & Compliance Oversight : Apply established project management methodologies, ensure compliance with legislative, policy, and regulatory frameworks, and contribute to planning and performance documentation. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration : Build and sustain effective relationships, communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes, and work collaboratively across teams. Leadership & Quality Assurance : Provide guidance to designers and engineers, ensure adherence to quality assurance systems, and promote safe work practices under OSH/HSE procedures. Performance Analysis & Continuous Improvement : Analyse project performance, identify risks and opportunities, resolve issues through alternative solutions, and initiate strategies to achieve outcomes efficiently and accurately. What You’ll Bring Formal Qualifications : Cert IV in Project Management plus diploma, advanced diploma, or tertiary qualifications in technical or business disciplines. Project Delivery Experience : Demonstrated experience managing projects from concept through to delivery, with strong organisational and time management skills. Technical & Analytical Skills : Solid grasp of engineering and design principles, manufacturing processes, construction methods, and problem‑solving with creative solutions. Software Proficiency : Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, for documentation and analysis. Personal Attributes : Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work autonomously, attention to detail, integrity, collaboration, and safety awareness. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
