Key Selection Criteria KSC 1 Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of first aid management including asthma management, anaphylaxis, wound management, epilepsy and associated conditions. Role The School Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of students across the school. This role provides high-quality first aid and medical care, supports the development and implementation of student medical plans, and ensures accurate documentation and communication with families and staff. The School Nurse contributes to a safe and responsive school environment, working collaboratively with the Allied Health team and school leaders. Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day‑to‑day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers. Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives. An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee’s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher. Responsibilities Delivering high-quality first aid and emergency medical response. Managing student health information, Health Support Plans, and medication. Coordinating immunisation programs and supporting communicable disease management. Maintaining health records, policies, procedures, and compliance documentation. Liaising professionally with students, families, staff, and medical practitioners. Ensuring first aid resources and supplies are maintained across the school. Supporting staff training, including anaphylaxis and medical needs briefings. Assisting with camps, excursions, risk management, and student services processes. Ballarat Specialist School is a dual‑campus K‑12 school organised around four stages of learning – Early Learning (Ages 3‑5), Primary School (Ages 5‑12), Middle School (Ages 12‑15) and Senior School (Ages 15‑18). Our Early Learning to Middle School students are accommodated at our main Gillies Street Campus. Our Senior School students are located at our 8.09 hectare FARM Campus in Norman Street.
