Maintenance Supervisor

Take ownership of daily maintenance and help keep one of Sugar Australia’s key operational sites running safely and reliably. Sugar Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on Maintenance Supervisor to join us in a permanent full‑time role at our Mackay Port facility. Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Northern Loop, you’ll take the lead in coordinating maintenance activities, supervising contractors, and ensuring the safe and dependable performance of critical plant and equipment. This role is well suited to a practical and proactive maintenance professional who is confident planning work, solving problems as they arise, and working closely with operations to keep our plant running efficiently. What you’ll be doing : As the Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for coordinating and supervising all daily maintenance work on site. You’ll work closely with our Production, Reliability and Operations teams to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with the site’s operating schedule. Your key responsibilities include : Planning, scheduling and supervising daily maintenance activities for trades and operator maintainers Managing breakdown response to maintain plant availability Coordinating contractors, issuing permits and ensuring compliance with SHEQ standards Providing strong safety leadership and ensuring maintenance work follows site safety requirements Overseeing preventative and predictive maintenance tasks to support plant reliability Managing materials, spare parts and maintenance inventory, including procurement and stocktakes Supporting shutdown planning, long‑cycle maintenance tasks and reliability improvements Ensuring accurate CMMS (SAP PM) data, tidy backlogs and quality work order administration Working collaboratively with site teams to align maintenance plans with operational priorities What you’ll bring to the role : You’ll have the technical depth and practical maintenance experience needed to support safe, reliable operations and ensure work is carried out to a high standard. You’ll also bring : Mechanical and / or Electrical Trade Qualification (Fitter or Electrician preferred) A minimum of 5 years’ post‑trade experience in industrial supervision / management roles Proven experience supervising contractors and issuing permits Experience in FMCG, food production or the sugar industry (desirable) Working knowledge of rotating plant (gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, transmissions) Hands‑on experience with fabrication and boilermaking techniques Understanding of pneumatics and compressed air systems Exposure to electrical distribution and control systems Exposure to rigging, scaffolding and heavy lifting techniques Experience with CMMS systems (SAP PM preferred) Strong communication, organisation, problem‑solving and stakeholder skills Exposure to continuous improvement or lean principles (desirable) About Sugar Australia : Sugar Australia is the nation’s trusted partner in sugar and ingredient solutions, enabling our customers to make great products for every home since 1855.
