Classroom Teacher – Japanese Language / Cultural Teacher, Junior Primary Department of Education Victoria – Eltham VIC Eltham East Primary School (EEPS) seeks a part‑time Japanese language/cultural programme teacher for junior grades in 2026. The position is 0.5 full‑time (2 days per week). Days prefer Wednesday‑Friday, but s/he may propose alternative days. School Context EEPS is a modern primary school with 640 students and a dedicated staff of 50+ teachers and support staff. The school values the “Be Brave, Be Your Best Self and Be Kind” mantra and promotes literacy, numeracy, arts, science, humanities, health, physical education, music, and Japanese. Role Overview The classroom teacher is responsible for planning, preparing, and teaching Japanese language and culture for Prep to Year 6. The teacher will deliver high‑impact instruction, mentor colleagues, and use student data to inform practice. Responsibilities Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students. Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area within the school. Undertaking additional teaching‑related and organisational duties as directed by the Principal. Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions. Assisting with non‑teaching supervisory duties as required. Selection Criteria SC1: Demonstrated knowledge of the curriculum, ability to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills, and experience responding to student learning needs. SC2: Experience planning and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning programs. SC3: Experience monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice, and providing feedback to students and parents. SC4: Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to establish collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader community. SC5: Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values; engagement in professional learning and reflective practice. SC6: Ability to use observation and feedback to develop, document and deliver a high‑quality Japanese teaching program for students from Prep to Year 6.
