Team Leader Statutory Planning

About the role In this role you’ll play a key role in shaping how our community grows. Working alongside other experienced Team Leaders, you’ll contribute to and oversee the assessment and processing of a wide range of Planning Permit applications, ensuring decisions are made efficiently, accurately, and with outstanding customer service. Key responsibilities include: Supervise the investigation, evaluation and reporting of applications by a team of professional town planners and staff. Coaching, training and appraisal for a team of professionals in accordance with Council’s policies and guidelines. Carrying out recruitment and development of staff including inductions and training and assisting with the professional needs of the team. Monitor and report the team's performance and improvements. Implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to. Ensuring appropriate allocation, monitoring and scheduling of work to meet the requirements of the Unit and customer expectations. Assist in the development of the statutory planning budget. Provide subject matter expertise and advice to leaders and other relevant stakeholders. Represent Council at VCAT, Planning Committee Meetings and other public forums. About you To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning or Urban Studies or similar related field and substantial professional experience within the industry. Demonstrated people management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment. Sound knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, and policies. Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives. Proven ability to meet time frames in a demanding environment. Highly developed analytical, investigative and communication skills. The ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
