On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will merge with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health, and Gippsland Southern Health Service to form Bayside Health, a newly merged service with over 22,000 employees caring for more than 1.2 million Victorians. Permanent, ongoing role Full‑time, 80 hours per fortnight (flexible monthly ADOs) Grade 1‑2 Scientist Location: Alfred Hospital The Department Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides comprehensive pathology testing, consultation, and collection services to clinicians and patients. APS has five units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology) and operates both the core laboratory at The Alfred and a satellite lab at Sandringham Hospital. Position Summary Grade 1 and 2 Scientists rotate through various laboratory sections, including the Sandringham lab when required. They are responsible for processing routine specimens, issuing accurate and timely results, and supporting high‑quality work as part of a team. Additional responsibilities may include evaluating and accessioning specimens, day‑to‑day equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, and stocktaking. Essential Experience and Qualifications Formal education: Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent. Knowledge of laboratory haematology and its practical applications. Knowledge of clinical haematology and its practical applications. Knowledge of transfusion science and its practical applications. Knowledge of recent advances in clinical haematology. Desirable Competence in interpreting haematological results and blood film examination. Competence in Flow Cytometry MRD and CAR‑T processing. Competence in Immunology testing.
