About the role As a Client Support Volunteer at the Refugee Resource Hub in Dandenong, you’ll play a key role in welcoming and supporting people seeking asylum. Your responsibilities will include conducting intake, providing information, and making referrals to internal and external services. You’ll be part of a compassionate, multidisciplinary team working in a fast‑paced, drop‑in environment. With support and guidance, you’ll contribute to a service that values dignity, inclusion, and timely, person‑centred care. Program: Access and Intake The Access & Intake Program is a core service of the ASRC, designed to respond to the immediate and ongoing needs of people seeking asylum. Operating within the Refugee Resource Hub, the program offers rapid, integrated support across priority areas including housing, food, legal, health, financial advocacy, and community engagement. Grounded in a human rights‑based approach, the program brings together ASRC’s key services in one welcoming space, ensuring individuals receive coordinated and effective assistance when they need it most. Key Responsibilities Welcoming and orienting new clients to Refugee Resource Hub services Conducting intake conversations and assisting with assessments (with support as needed) Helping clients complete forms and collecting copies of visa, legal, and other required documents Making internal and external referrals to appropriate support services Maintaining accurate case notes and client records Providing general information and support over the phone and in person Assisting with advocacy tasks or other team duties as needed What We’re Looking For Essential A strong interest in working alongside people seeking asylum and a commitment to human rights and social justice Ability to respond sensitively and respectfully to people with complex needs, including those who may present in distress or crisis Good communication skills, both verbal and written Basic computer literacy and willingness to use systems like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Organised, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team Enthusiasm to learn and contribute in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment Desirable Currently studying or completed qualifications in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development, Youth Work, Counselling, or related fields Experience (paid, volunteer, or placement) in community or client‑facing roles Familiarity with writing case notes or maintaining client records Awareness of issues faced by people seeking asylum and refugees, particularly those who have experienced detention or trauma About Us The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is the largest aid, employment, health, and advocacy organisation for people seeking asylum in Australia.
