Role Length: Sessional, 3 years Meetings: Monthly, Half day meetings Location: Melbourne CBD, online or another location Salary: $10,000 - $19,999 About the board About the Board Victoria was the first state to pass voluntary assisted dying legislation. The legislation established a Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board to monitor the safe operation of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017 (the Act). The functions of the Board are set out in Part 9 of the Act. By joining the Board, you will play an important role in continuing to shape the future of healthcare and supporting end‑of‑life choices within our community. About the role About the Role Board member (legal) We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong legal background to join our Board. You’ll contribute to strategic governance and be able to provide clear independent advice on compliance and other quality and safety elements of the program. You will have sound judgement, demonstrated legal expertise, preferably in healthcare, and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical, consumer, and government stakeholders. Board member (consumer) We are seeking a consumer representative who can bring lived experience of voluntary assisted dying to the Board’s deliberations – whether that be as a family member, carer or close friend. You will champion the consumer voice, offering insight into access, and safety and quality of the voluntary assisted dying program, and help ensure that our decisions remain balanced and grounded in real‑life experience. Confidentiality, independence and commitment to respectful, inclusive engagement are essential. View the Board’s Terms of Reference Read the VAD Annual report Who we’re looking for Selection criteria Significant expertise or qualifications that would be advantageous to the operation of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board. Integrity and a high standing in the community or amongst their peers. Appreciation or understanding of the broader policy context and issues surrounding the delivery of voluntary assisted dying and existing end‑of‑life care choices, including contemporaneous quality and safety principles. Experience or qualifications in law. Good working knowledge and understanding of corporate and clinical governance. Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning and leadership skills. Experience in effective consultation and collaboration with stakeholders. Ability to commit to meetings and out‑of‑session work as required. Demonstrated experience and/or capacity in one of the additional areas above. What you need to apply How to apply.
