Custom Build Renovations is looking for a passionate and driven Leading Hand Carpenter to join the team in 2026 . We deliver high-end carpentry and building services in the Illawarra, including renovations, top‑storey additions, extensions and new builds. All carpentry work is completed in‑house and we genuinely value attention to detail, problem‑solving skills and a commitment to getting stuff done properly. We are big believers that the success isn’t just about the build – it’s about strong relationships. We have made a conscious effort to prioritise the well‑being of both our team and our trusted trades. We do this by appreciating everyone’s contribution, investing in team development, organising regular social activities throughout the year (yes, we love a golf day). We like to get to know each other off the tools too. The role Lead on-site operations – You will be the person making daily decisions about the workflow, quality standards and how to tackle the challenges that come with renovation work. Execute and oversee all carpentry – You will complete high‑standard carpentry work yourself whilst overseeing the team and ensuring that quality is maintained at all stages. Mentor and develop your team – You will supervise a small crew of carpenters, providing hands on guidance and helping them hone their skills. Be the on-site point of contact – You will coordinate other trades, communicate with clients and represent Custom Build Renovations professionally on every project. About you If we could build the perfect Leading Hand Carpenter, they would: Have excellent problem‑solving skills and adapt well to changing situations. Be passionate about residential building and keen to keep learning. Be detail driven and take pride in quality work. Communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, team members and other trades. Be confident leading a team and supporting each person’s professional growth. Have an interest in AFL/cricket/golf (optional – but massive bonus if you love all three). At a bare minimum, you will need: 3+ years of experience as a qualified carpenter working on residential projects. Demonstrable experience completing all stages of carpentry work. Confidence in your ability to supervise and lead others. Your own vehicle with tool carrying capacity. Your own tools. White Card. Certificate III in Carpentry. Why work with us?
