Senior Counsel, Energy, APAC Tesla is looking for a Senior Counsel, Energy Products (APAC), based in our Sydney or Melbourne offices, to support the growth of our business in Asia-Pacific. The role focuses on major projects in energy, construction, corporate, technology, and related matters, with emphasis on commercial & industrial and utility-scale energy storage businesses across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the wider APAC region, as well as our retail energy business in Australia. You will also support our International Corporate team in establishing and administering local subsidiary companies, and the global Energy Legal team with compliance issues. What You'll Do Provide advice on a wide variety of strategic regulatory and transactional matters for the Energy Products business around the APAC region, including commercial and consumer matters. Assist with structuring and negotiating Energy Products sales, service and project finance and development transactions – e.g., equipment supply, construction, maintenance, lease, power purchase, software services, performance guarantee, warranty and commodity procurement and sales agreements for solar and energy storage projects. Support creative financing transactions and assist with the development of Tesla-owned generation and storage projects. Advise on the sale, installation and maintenance of Powerwall, Megapack, and energy commodity offerings, both direct to consumers and through channel partnerships, to grow at scale around APAC. Assist on new market entry and new product launches for the Energy Products business around APAC. Liaise with colleagues to ensure consistency of contracts and risk allocation across the global Energy business. Liaise with the International Corporate team to establish and administer new corporate entities in Australia and the wider APAC region. What You'll Bring Excellent academic credentials (preferably J.D. or high Honours degree). A current Australian practising certificate. Minimum 6 years post-qualification experience at a well-regarded law firm or comparable in-house experience in the energy industry strongly preferred. Experience structuring and negotiating components of complex, bankable transactions in the energy space, with preference for renewable energy experience. Team player who works proactively, identifies problems, drives projects forward, makes complex cost / benefit assessments, and finds pragmatic legal and business solutions. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, juggling competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Quick, flexible learner, intellectually curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and risk, and excited by dynamic change. Strong interpersonal skills; can earn confidence of colleagues and communicate with all levels of the organization. High standards, integrity, ethics, good judgment, analytical skills, superior oral and written communication, and a keen sense of humour.
