Our Values Person-centred care Equity and Inclusion Curiosity and Collaboration Innovation and Impact Compassionate Leadership ABOUT THE ROLE This role provides therapeutic recovery counselling via face-to-face, phone and video to support women, girls and gender-diverse people across Queensland. This Counselling service is accessible, gender-responsive, and healing-centred. There is particular attention to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LBTIAQ+ communities, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse peoples, those in contact with the justice system, and those affected by DFV, and mental health distress. This is an office-based role located in Caboolture (8 days per fortnight) and South Brisbane (1 day per fortnight). It includes face to face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities. Service Context The role is based at Wellspring Women and Girls Health Hub, an initiative of Micah Projects funded as part of the Queensland Women and Girl’s Health Strategy. Wellspring Women and Girls Health Hub provide services to all women and girls using an integrated model of care. The model includes partnerships to assist in extending services and building relationships to improve health and social outcomes for community members. For WHEQ, this partnership includes co‑locating the Senior Counsellor – Caboolture role at the Health Hub approximately 8 days per fortnight. The Senior Counsellor will utilise WHEQ’s approaches, systems and practice frameworks, while working collaboratively with the Health Hub team. Reporting Structure The Senior Counsellor reports to the WHEQ 1800 4 WOMEN Lead and works alongside other services co‑located at the Wellspring Women and Girls Health Hub. One day per fortnight, the role works from the WHEQ office in South Brisbane to engage in peer supervision, team meetings, remote work and to connect with the broader WHEQ staff and external stakeholders as needed. Position Responsibilities Recovery counselling and support Deliver trauma‑informed and person‑centred counselling for women, girls and gender‑diverse people via face‑to‑face, phone and video. Assess participants’ health and wellbeing needs, and develop, monitor, and review individualised care plans. Provide warm referrals to external organisations. This may be to support participants to meet their identified goals and/or when another service can better meet a participant’s overall needs. Undertake risk assessments and safety planning with participants. When needed, elevate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels. Leadership in best practice Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of best‑practice principles and adhere to evidence‑based counselling, health promotion, and education frameworks. Engage in clinical supervision, team learning, and sector training. Support the development and delivery of professional education initiatives to enhance capacity in trauma‑informed and gender‑responsive practices. Collaboration and continuous improvement Build and nurture relationships with partners and community groups to enhance, deliver, and extend WHEQ’s services. Contribute to the continuous improvement of WHEQ’s counselling services – particularly in the context of the new counselling offering at Wellspring Women and Girls Health Hub - and WHEQ more generally. Support the development of accurate and timely data for service evaluation and improvement, external reporting and compliance purposes. This includes collecting key information as part of participant intake and exit. ABOUT YOU Qualified and experienced: Bachelor or postgraduate degree in counselling, social work or similar with at least 5 years’ experience in the field. Person‑centred practitioner committed to best practice: Demonstrated ability to work with participants in trauma‑informed, culturally safe, and gender‑responsive counselling practice. Ability to work inclusively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other priority groups, including rural and remote communities, people living with a disability, CALD, LGBTIAQ+, and people in contact with the justice system. Knowledge of domestic violence, mental health &/or community service sectors Ability to work independently: This role requires a level of comfort with independent working, excellent professional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across organisations.
