Chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is Australia's integrated corporate, markets, financial services and consumer credit regulator. ASIC makes a critical contribution to Australia’s economy by ensuring transparent, fair, and efficient financial markets that attract investment and foster innovation. Its regulation of corporate conduct and consumer protection builds trust and stability. By enabling better financial decision‑making and supporting inclusion and innovation in financial markets, ASIC helps create a resilient foundation for long‑term economic performance. ASIC is an independent Australian Government statutory authority, and its role, functions and powers are set out in the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (ASIC Act). About the role: The ASIC Chair leads the Commission in maintaining the integrity of Australia’s financial system and supporting economic growth. As Accountable Authority under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, the Chair oversees ASIC’s strategic direction, governance, resource management, and regulatory performance. This includes working with the Chief Executive Officer on financial, people, and operational oversight, as well as accountability frameworks. The Chair sets ASIC’s strategic direction and governance, ensuring the organisation remains responsive to emerging risks and evolving market dynamics. Through capable oversight of regulatory and enforcement functions the Chair helps shape a financial system that fosters investor and consumer confidence, economic stability, and long‑term national prosperity. The Chair provides principled, transparent leadership aligned with the public interest, promoting a culture of integrity and ethical standards. The role involves representing ASIC in public forums and leading delivery of regulatory and enforcement functions in complex, dynamic environments. ASIC members are appointed for a period up to five years, with the possibility of reappointment. Remuneration is determined by the Remuneration Tribunal and subject to the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973. Professional Experience: Qualifications and experience relevant to ASIC’s mandate including: A respected profile in a relevant field, including the financial system, regulation and/or government with a proven track record of senior executive experience. A strong understanding of the commercial, financial, regulatory and public policy issues in financial system regulation, the operation of financial markets and services and the role of ASIC. Demonstrated ability to lead an organisation of significant scale and complexity, and experience in managing cultural and technological transformation. Proven ability to advocate for complex organisational goals in public forums with integrity, fostering trust and confidence among stakeholders.
