Cone Penetration Testing Operator – FIFO work in QLD and NT – based out of Melbourne Black Insitu Testing is a growing specialised geotechnical testing company based in Melbourne with projects Australia wide. We are looking for a new Cone Penetration Test (CPT) Operator. The position involves operating truck and track based test rigs and performing specialised geotechnical tests and soil sampling. CPT experience will be an advantage. Training will be provided for specific company procedures, to operate rigs and other specialist testing and sampling. As a company we focus on the provision of high quality geotechnical data to our clients rather than just high production rates. We need someone who is enthusiastic and capable in learning new cutting cutting edge test methods. This will require computer literacy and good problem solving skills, together with the ability to work in a team and be adaptable to on the fly client changes to the testing scope. The job will mostly be FIFO work conducted in QLD and NT, but there will be periods of local work in Melbourne. The FIFO work will consist of working 12 hours a day typically on a 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off roster, but this does vary. Duties and Responsibilities: Attend site pre‑start meetings and inform others of proposed works for the day and answer any questions. Prepare and complete JSA/SWMS and take fives, as required. Follow mine site safety requirements, such as fit for work testing. Perform pre‑start equipment checks. Clean and maintain equipment. Ensure underground services have been cleared prior to any work by having a signed ground opening permit or a signed service indemnity form. Conduct cone penetration tests and other specialist tests as per company procedures. Communicate with client’s site engineer to define test requirements and implement scope changes, if required. Process test data on site and issue draft to the client by email. Back‑up test data to company sever every day. The following skills and experience are required: Computer literacy is essential to operate specialist software to log and process data. Ability to problem solve issues involving hydraulics, electronics and software. Support from other company staff is always available for these issues and the ability to clearly explain issues on site is the main requirement. Understand and are committed to following safe work practices. We are looking for someone who is reliable, able to work away from home, and willing to learn new skills. Salary will be based on experience and will increase as training progresses. All travel, accommodation and meals are provided for FIFO work.
