Senior Software Engineer - Java Join People First Bank as a Senior Software Engineer – Java on the Payments & Cards team within Transformation and Technology. This 12‑month fixed‑term contract has the potential to extend or become permanent. About the Role As part of the Payments and Cards team you will provide software development in Java, ensuring the delivery of exceptional banking services, products, and applications used directly by customers. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure the successful execution of solutions that align with business objectives and deliver reliability, scalability, and an outstanding user experience. Typical Responsibilities Software Development: Provide expert technical leadership and guidance on Java engineering solutions and implementations. Integration: Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to design scalable, reliable, and secure Payments & Cards solutions that meet business, strategic, and compliance requirements. Change Management: Lead and oversee changes into production, ensuring development, design, testing and verification adhere to ITIL standards and maintain secure, stable and resilient (SSR) standards. Team Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, delivery leads and analysts to integrate Payment & Cards platforms with other systems and applications. Technical Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including architecture diagrams and design specifications. About You You are highly adept at collaborating with your team and technology representatives to maximize the value of internally developed applications. You are the “go‑to” expert for application functionality and technical aspects, ensuring they are clean, efficient and deliver business value. Knowledge and Experience Extensive software language knowledge (server‑side, front‑end or DevOps). Competency in supporting and developing software applications across platforms, particularly Java. Financial services and payments expertise in NPP is highly regarded. Strong knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, development, test and deployment automation. Strong understanding of API design and development.
