Skilled Carpenter - Heritage Carriage Restoration Position: Skilled Carpenter - Heritage Carriage Restoration About the Don River Railway The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Our Carpentry/Carriage Workshop is crucial for the meticulous restoration and maintenance of our historic wooden carriages, ensuring their authenticity and longevity. The Opportunity We are seeking experienced and qualified Carpenters to join our dedicated Carpentry/Carriage Workshop team. This is a hands‑on role where your craftsmanship will directly contribute to the intricate restoration of our unique collection of heritage railway carriages. If you are passionate about applying your trade in a historical context, working with traditional methods, and bringing beautiful rolling stock back to its former glory, this is a highly rewarding opportunity. Key Responsibilities & Duties Perform skilled carpentry work on historic railway carriages, including structural repairs, timber replacement, and interior fit‑out. Work with various timber types and traditional woodworking techniques. Assist with the assessment of carriage condition and planning of restoration projects. Collaborate with other skilled tradespeople, painters, and handymen/women within the workshop. Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures, workshop competencies, and operational guidelines. Contribute to a positive and collaborative workshop environment.
