About the Role If you are looking for flexibility while you study or looking to work in between caring for your family, our Disability Support Workers are employed on a casual basis offering flexibility for picking up shifts and filling in rosters as needed. The ideal candidate a willingness to learn a skill for redirection tactics and the ability to support clients to achieving their independent living goals. Will be caring, open-minded, reliable, flexible, able to follow instructions, has a can-do attitude and real sense of empathy. A Disability Support Worker has a crucial role in ensuring that NDIS participants are given the support they need and to assist participants in accomplishing daily activities, building trust with participants, and guiding them to lead independent lives. We expect our staff to deliver on the principles of choice, control, and self-determination. To be respectful and non-judgmental and to create a non-discriminatory and culturally safe service delivery and workplace. Key Responsibilities Utilise a strengths-based, participant focused framework with participants, families, and partners. Be responsible for the daily care of participants potentially with psychosocial disabilities and challenging behaviour. Providing transport for activities or medical appointments. Personal care such as showering, dressing, and bowel care. Assistance with cooking and cleaning. Assist participants with their daily routines and activities in line with individual NDIS plans. Work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Regularly fill out shift reports and medication charts. Assist participants to lead a more independent life, with freedom to have choice and control over their decisions. Aptitude and willingness to learn and a desire to work in the disability sector. Completion certificate for the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission module - 'Quality, Safety and You'. Strong ability to demonstrate reflective listening techniques and motivational interviewing to ascertain participants needs and desires. A valid NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain it. Access to own reliable car with comprehensive insurance, and a valid Australian driver's licence. Strong flexibility to work on a 24/7 rotating roster. Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain prior to commencement. Unrestricted working rights in Australia. Preferred Criteria Excellent written and verbal communication skills. First Aid and CPR Certificates (not essential). Confident in ability to work unsupervised. (You will be paired with a buddy worker for your first shifts to get the hang of it). Ability to work under pressure. Available to work weekends and the occasional public holiday.
