Role Summary Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Governance & Quality Assurance (RG&QA), the Institutional Assurance & Risk Officer supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of JMC Academy’s assurance, risk, and compliance systems. The position contributes to maintaining effective, evidence‑based mechanisms that monitor and evaluate compliance with legislative, regulatory, and internal governance requirements. Working under the direction of the Head of RG&QA, and in close collaboration with the Governance, Policy & Quality Officer, this role plays an important coordinating and analytical function within JMC’s institutional assurance framework, ensuring governance, quality, risk, and compliance activities are aligned and well documented across the organisation. Together with the Governance, Policy & Quality Officer, the incumbent: Supports the coordination and delivery of assigned components of JMC’s integrated Institutional Assurance Framework. Assists with developing the RG&QA Annual Work Plan, governance and compliance calendars, and assurance reporting schedules. Contributes to cross‑checking and consolidating governance papers, audit findings, and assurance reports for executive and board committees. Attends relevant governance committees to support information accuracy and documentation integrity. Supports preparation of institutional assurance and self‑assurance reports to the Academic Board, JMC Board, and their subcommittees. Key Responsibilities Institutional Assurance and Compliance Systems Support the coordination and maintenance of JMC’s institutional assurance framework. Monitor and update the compliance register, ensuring oversight of statutory and regulatory obligations under TEQSA, ESOS, ASQA, and related legislation. Assist in coordinating assurance reviews, control testing, and compliance attestations. Contribute to accreditation and re‑accreditation processes, including TEQSA standards mapping and evidence preparation. Maintain the enterprise risk register, ensuring information is accurate and current. Prepare risk reporting for the Board, Risk & Audit Committee, and ELT. Support business units to embed risk awareness and develop mitigation strategies. Audit and Continuous Assurance Coordinate internal and external audit activities, ensuring recommendations are tracked to completion. Assist in maintaining assurance dashboards and data visualisations. Conduct periodic assurance checks on policies, controls, and risk treatments. Business Continuity and Resilience Support coordination, testing, and review of Business Continuity Plans (BCP). Maintain emergency management, incident response, and recovery documentation. Strategic and Sector Engagement Monitor emerging regulatory changes and sector developments. Support engagement in professional networks, risk forums, and regulator consultations. Key Attributes and Experience Experience in institutional assurance, risk management, compliance or governance in higher education or a similar organisation. Working knowledge of the HESF (2021), TEQSA Act, ESOS Act, and related regulatory frameworks (or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge). Ability to interpret, analyse, and communicate risk and compliance data to executive audiences. Experience supporting audits, assurance activities, and control testing. Strong analytical and written communication skills. Relevant tertiary qualification in business, governance, risk management, law, or a related field (postgraduate preferred). Evidence of continuing professional development in risk, assurance, or compliance.
