Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic Engineer - Australia Location: Australia, Norton Gold Fields (Site-Based, FIFO/DIDO) Position Title: Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter - Mobile Equipment Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and safety‑focused Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter to join our dynamic maintenance team at our Australian mining operations. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the peak performance and reliability of our large off‑road mining fleet, including CAT, Komatsu, and similar heavy mobile equipment. This is a hands‑on, shift‑based position perfect for a tradesperson who thrives in a fast‑paced and rewarding environment. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and unscheduled repairs on a large fleet of off‑road mining equipment (e.g., Haul Trucks, Excavators, Dozers, Loaders). Conduct advanced diagnostic troubleshooting on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to identify and rectify complex faults efficiently. Execute component changes, rebuilds, and major overhauls to a high standard. Accurately complete all maintenance documentation, including work orders, service reports, and parts requisitions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Adhere strictly to all company and site safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines. Collaborate effectively with production operators, supervisors, and other team members to maximize equipment availability and reliability. Utilize workshop tools and equipment safely and effectively. Qualifications, Skills & Experience Essential:• A relevant Australian Trade Qualification as a Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter or Mobile Plant Mechanic.• Proven post‑trade experience maintaining large off‑road mining equipment, with specific expertise on CAT and/or Komatsu machinery.• Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills for hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.• A demonstrated, unwavering commitment to workplace safety.• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.• Must be physically fit and able to work effectively within a shift roster. Highly Regarded:• HRWL (High Risk Work Licenses) such as Forklift, EWP, or Dogging/Rigging.• Current certifications in Confined Space and Working at Heights.• Experience with basic welding and fabrication (e.g., Arc, MIG).• Familiarity with diagnostic software (e.g., ET, SIS).• Experience working in an open‑cut mining environment.
