Visiting Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine (FACEM or FRACP PEM) REQ – John Hunter Hospital, HNELHD – Newcastle NSW Multiple fixed term temporary roles – 12 months. Rostered shifts equivalent of 3.0 FTE available. Applications are sought from suitably qualified Consultant Emergency Physicians for a fixed‑term, 12‑month position at John Hunter Hospital. This role includes guaranteed rostered weekend and evening VMO shifts (equivalent 3.0 FTE) in the Emergency Department, providing contemporary, comprehensive specialist care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Major Trauma & Tertiary Centre – John Hunter Hospital is home to the only trauma centre outside Sydney and delivers primary and tertiary trauma services to the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast. High‑Acuity, Diverse Caseload – With one of the busiest EDs in the state, this role provides exposure to a broad range of emergency medicine, including paediatrics, major trauma, critical care, and retrieval services. Role Requirements Medical Registration – Applicants must hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and either a Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or FRACP Paediatrician with a Specialisation in Emergency Medicine (FRACP PEM). Clinical Responsibilities – Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth, and on‑call services as required by HNELHD. Education & Research – Contribute to training, supervision, and ongoing clinical education within the department. Why Newcastle?
