Led by the Chief Executive, who also heads Veterans SA, the South Australian Space Industry Centre, and the Defence Innovation Partnership, our agency operates as a unified team to champion and promote economic growth in the defence and space industries.Role Purpose/Context:The Director Advanced Systems will develop and deliver a strategy for the growth and economic development for the Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 sectors within South Australia. Advanced Systems includes AUKUS Pillar 2 priorities and Battlespace Awareness (Electronic Warfare, Information Warfare, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Combat Systems) capabilities. Working as part of the Defence SA team, the Director will ensure effective collaboration across state and federal governments and sector stakeholders to achieve economic development outcomes for the state and defence industry.The Director Advanced Systems will be responsible for:Identification and pursuit of industry and economic development opportunities for the State within the Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 sectors.Developing and implementing the Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 state strategy and improving business development processes across Electronic Warfare, Information Warfare, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Combat SystemsUnderstanding skills, training, infrastructure and policy requirements in the named disciplines to support a sustainable advanced defence systems and capabilities industry.This role will be key in implementing a strategic approach to maximise the economic opportunities in this area by positioning South Australia as the best place to develop these technologies.Key Selection Criteria:To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience working in Advanced Systems and Battlespace Awareness which demonstrates:A good understanding of defence strategic and Advanced Systems capabilities;Extensive experience working in the one or more of the listed Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 disciplines and the defence sector which demonstrates:Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies;Detailed knowledge of global and national developments relating to Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 technologies;Working knowledge of workforce demands and structures; andProven leadership in the development and implementation of business initiatives relating to the defence sector.Experience in working with senior members of industry and the Australian Defence Organisation to promote and develop business opportunities and creating and managing business networks.Proven experience in developing and maintaining collaborative, working relationships with stakeholders, including negotiation and mediation with industry, state government agencies and other stakeholders.Experience and ability to identify and analyse complex, strategic issues and projects of state-wide impact, expressing goals and plans and defining and delivering the approaches and courses of action to achieve them.Experience at working independently and collaboratively, planning, programming and coordinating work, thinking clearly and creatively and making decisions in an environment characterised by a complex fast-moving sector and competing deadlines.In addition to the above experience, to succeed in this role, you will need:A proven and natural leadership approach; you will have the ability to lead, work collaboratively and build positive working relationships.The ability to work independently within broad priority guidelines.The ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.To exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence and well-developed political acumen.To be adaptable and flexible to meet organisational demands.Highly developed strategic management skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to research, analyse and write detailed reports.Our Commitment to DiversityThe South Australian Government is committed to building a flexible, diverse and inclusive culture, planning for and promoting diversity. Therefore, all applicants must be Australian Citizens or be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship immediately.This is a contract / term vacancy up to 36 months. The incumbent is required to enter into an annual performance agreement. Work outside of normal hours will be required as will intrastate, interstate and possible overseas travel involving overnight absences.
