Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital is the principle tertiary hospital within the region and provides a broad range of referral services in all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia. Currently, the Royal Darwin Hospital is seeking a neurosurgeon Fellow to join its neurosurgical team for a 12-month assignment in February 2026. Under the direction of Dr. Ameya Kamat a renowned Neurosurgeon specialising in brain tumour and spinal surgery, you will further develop your clinical skills and ability to provide high quality neurosurgical services to patients referred by the Hospital’s Emergency Department and undertake consult for inpatients. Your key duties will involve assessing neurosurgical patients referred from the Emergency Department, and overseeing the admission, management and discharge of patients from the service under the supervision of neurosurgical SHMOs/consultants and participate in the operating theatre. You will also be required to participate in the Department’s 24-hr roster to ensure the proper functioning of the service. In addition, you will have the opportunity to conduct research, peer review practices and Continued Medical Education, and provide supervision to junior medical staff and other clinical staff. To be successful, you require registration with the Medical Board of Australia, hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent, demonstrated experience applicable to Neurosurgery and a passion for rural, regional and Aboriginal healthcare.
