Overview Be part of a pioneering initiative at CSIRO’s Data61, contributing to the National Quantum Computing Testbed — a new $5.9M facility at the University of Queensland. CSIRO is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer to help develop next-generation quantum technologies. In this role, you’ll work within the Quantum Systems Team to: Drive research that lowers the barriers to quantum computing adoption. Develop secure, scalable quantum software and hybrid quantum-classical systems. Engage with partners across industry, academia, and government to deliver real-world solutions. Help shape the future of quantum computing in Australia through open-access innovation and responsible tech development. Your duties will include: Under the direction of Team Leader, Senior Research Scientists and Engineers, this Research Scientist will: Conduct innovative research in quantum software platforms, focusing on quantum compilers, algorithms, and hardware-agnostic solutions. Collaborate across CSIRO and with external academic and industry partners to drive impactful research and technology development. Produce high-quality research outputs, including publications, patents, and technical presentations at conferences. Develop and demonstrate research prototypes at key events, applying design thinking and impact-focused methodologies. Analyse and manage complex datasets using relevant quantum and data science techniques. Engage in continuous professional development and adhere to CSIRO’s policies on conduct, safety, and diversity. Support proposal development and contribute to new research directions aligned with strategic priorities.
