Queensland Fire and Emergency Services We are recruiting Casual Flexible Auxiliary Firefighters for the Bowen station. The position is classified as FAUXF and falls under the Queensland Fire & Emergency Services Division within the FR - NORTHERN region. About QFES QFES is the sole Australian agency delivering high‑quality fire, rescue, emergency and disaster management services through a single agency. It comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service, and supports other volunteer groups. Purpose of the Role Auxiliary Firefighters will support QFES in ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland by responding to incidents, participating in training, and promoting community safety. Key Requirements Mandatory Requirements Written consent from employer to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable) Live or work within reasonable distance of an auxiliary fire station Australian Permanent Resident status Manual C‑class driver’s licence Commitments – throughout employment Attend calls: 50% of calls as a day‑worker with routine hours, or 30% of calls as a shift‑worker or with non‑routine hours Attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions Obtain an MRV licence, at own expense, within 12 months of employment Participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care Comply with QFES policies and procedures (code of conduct, safety and presentation standards) Your Key Accountabilities Respond to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a team Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through education activities Maintain competencies by attending regular drills and relevant training courses Maintain required attendance standards for incidents and training Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively Contribute to upkeep, hygiene and repair of station facilities Assist with incident reporting and general station administration Promote a positive team approach in all work activities Comply with legislative, policy and procedural requirements Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers and the community Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment through organisational health principles and procedures Capabilities Assessment will focus on leadership and management behavioural competencies aligned to QFES objectives: Performing Through Vision Understand how work aligns with organisational objectives Act proactively and respond flexibly to change Focus on customers and seek continuous improvement Performing Through Results Focus on performance and manage relationships Support others’ capability development and provide constructive feedback Performing Through Accountability Model professional and ethical behaviour Display rigour in analysis and apply specialist knowledge and skills Commit to personal development We expect appointees to exemplify QFES shared values: Respect, Integrity, Trust, Courage, Loyalty.
