Join to apply for the Industrial Officer role at Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) The Independent Education Union (IEU) Victoria Tasmania is a union represents over 20,000 members working in non‑government education across Victoria and Tasmania. The union is seeking a legally qualified Industrial Officer to join our industrial team. The successful candidate will be results‑based, enthusiastic, and committed to improving members’ lives at work. Duties Represent and advise members in workplace issues and disputes, including teacher registration and child protection. Provide industrial information and legal advice on workplace and industry‑wide matters to members and officers of the union. Support enterprise bargaining, drafting and enforcement of Industrial Agreements. Draft and prepare applications and submissions to various industrial and professional tribunals on behalf of the union and its members. Advocate on behalf of the union and its members at industrial and professional tribunals. Undertake legal research and assist in the preparation of legal cases. Key Selection Criteria Essential Strong commitment to trade unionism and/or social justice. Current legal practising certificate or capacity to obtain one immediately. Right of Entry permit or ability to obtain one. Capacity to prepare and advocate a position formally at a tribunal, court, mediation or meeting and brief counsel. Experience in bargaining for industrial agreements. Well‑developed research, analytical and problem‑solving skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to develop strategic relationships. Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and multi‑task. Experience in industrial relations and employment law. Ability to provide written and verbal advice to members and officers of the union. Advantageous Demonstrated knowledge of employment and industrial law. Prior experience working in a union. At least 2 years post‑admission experience in employment and industrial law. Employment Conditions Collegial and supportive environment. Generous superannuation. 6 weeks annual leave. 10 RDOs. Professional development allowance. Salary range: $110,000 to $150,000, dependent on skills and experience.
