Assistant Principal Special Education - General - Fairfield Public School NSW Department of Education – Fairfield NSW Fairfield Public School, established in 1889, is situated in the heart of Fairfield's central business district. The current enrolment is over 400 students, with 95% of students from a language background other than English, with approximately 35% of students from a refugee background. An Inclusive Learning Hub is currently being established to commence at the beginning of the 2026 school year. The Assistant Principal Special Education will lead the development of the routines for these inclusive education classes, teach one of the three classes, lead and supervise the teaching and support staff, and manage all aspects of teaching and learning for the students across the three classes. Selection Criteria Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students K-6 with moderate intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs, with the ability to effectively manage the dual roles of educational leadership and classroom teaching. Proven ability to lead the development and implementation of differentiated, personalised learning plans that utilise evidence-informed teaching practices and align with the Disability Standards for Education to improve engagement and outcomes for diverse learners. Demonstrated ability and experience in leading and mentoring staff to design and apply inclusive, positive behaviour management strategies and behaviour support plans to enhance the individual social, emotional and educational needs of students with disabilities. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with evidence of building inclusive partnerships with students, families, staff, and external agencies to support students with disabilities in a culturally diverse community. General Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
