Principal/Senior Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Consultant Agon is a locally employee‑owned, national environmental consultancy. We specialise in environmental management, hazardous materials, and site contamination advice for clients across government, infrastructure, and development sectors. About the opportunity We are seeking a Principal or Senior Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Consultant to join our Melbourne team. You’ll work across metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria, and interstate projects, collaborating with our contaminated land and corporate teams, as well as site staff. You’ll be supported by our Technical Executives who can provide guidance, technical assistance, and professional development. Tasks Provide expert advice on hazardous materials through data interpretation and technical reporting. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, regulators, and internal teams. Identify and report business development opportunities. Conduct inspections for WHS/OHS compliance (asbestos Div. 5 & 6, mould, silica, lead). Design and supervise remediation programs (airborne monitoring, asbestos removal, mould remediation, soil abatement). Deliver Asbestos Awareness Training to clients and staff. Develop and maintain company policies, procedures, and templates. Undertake airborne fibre monitoring in line with ISO17025 accreditation. Lead, mentor, and supervise junior staff and contractors. About you Strong work ethic and relationship‑building skills. Motivation to grow with the business. Collaborative energy and enthusiasm. Initiative and effective time management. Attention to detail, especially in technical writing. Qualifications & Experience 5+ years’ experience (Senior) or 10+ years’ experience (Principal) in hazardous materials consulting. Tertiary training in hazardous materials, occupational hygiene, or related discipline. Experience in asbestos audits, fibre monitoring, soil abatement, mould, dust (silica/lead). Strong technical report writing skills. Highly regarded Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science, engineering, hazardous materials, or occupational hygiene. Membership with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH). Contaminated land consulting experience. Why Agon? Equal opportunity employer – we celebrate diversity and inclusion.
