The role As the Team Leader - Inspector of Mines, you will form part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering WA’s mines safety reforms, supporting operational planning, and engaging with industry to drive best-practice safety standards. Drawing on your experience in work health and safety in the mining sector, you will play a vital role in shaping safety culture, supporting statewide reform, and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements. Your strong leadership skills and experience in safety management, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory practice will be key to your success in this role. You will bring to the team your expertise in implementing WHS frameworks, leading operational initiatives, guiding cultural change, and your ability to collaborate effectively with technical specialists, inspectors, executives and external stakeholders. While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised. Experience and knowledge of the mining industry in an Australian or International context, and thorough knowledge of Work Health and Safety with a mining focus is essential to the role. A Degree relevant to the operations of the resources sector and/or, postgraduate/vocational qualifications, or training in work health and safety, or risk management. Demonstrated ability to listen, understand and adapt to communication style and message to suit a range of audiences, including the ability to negotiate effectively and convey information and structures via written and oral communication.
