St Thomas the Apostle PS is looking for an energetic, passionate and talented classroom teacher to join our vibrant, diverse learning community. We are seeking applicants who are keen to learn and to develop their expertise as an educator. We have a 2 day a week position (Thursday and Friday) in our Year 4 community. Our Community The school community is structured in single level streams with four classes of 26 students working in a flexible learning environment. The teams work collaboratively, planning together and supporting each other to ensure the best outcomes for our students in a professional learning environment. The school has 700 students and is richly blessed with a community comprising of people from many countries and cultures. Teaching and Learning Philosophy At St Thomas a Science of Reading approach is engaged to explicitly teach the skills for reading. Evidence based approaches are used across all curriculum areas, with our students experiencing systematic sequential learning to support their academic growth. Our teaching staff work collaboratively each week to assess, plan and enact learning opportunities. Regular opportunities to reflect on their impact are inbuilt. The school community has experienced staff ready to support a new team member to embed them in the 'St Thomas Way'. Catholic Identity The successful applicants will need to demonstrate a commitment to Catholic education. All teachers are welcome to apply (experienced teachers and graduates, Catholic and non-Catholic) and will be supported to understand and enact the Catholic ethos. Staff are supported to gain accreditation to Religious Education teach in a Catholic School within the first four years (paid release and training fees covered). Following in the mission of Jesus to love one another, we embed Catholic Social Teaching principles and are forever curious like our Patron Saint, Thomas. Staff and students live the school‑wide expectations of Safety, Respect and Learning every day. These are teaching positions under the DOSCEL 2022 Enterprise award. Scheduled class time in 2026 is 21 face to face teaching hours per week for a full time employee, pro‑ratio for part‑time employees. (19 hours or pro‑ratio scheduled class time for graduate and PTT teachers) The successful applicants will hold Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration - full or provisional. We are in a position to support a graduate to full registration. We are also able to support a 3rd or 4th year pre‑service teacher looking for a Permission To Teach position.
