The role and what we are looking for

This position is primarily responsible in assisting with the collection of the late-stage collections debtors ledger. The purpose of this position is to maximise recovery rates against existing doubtful and written off debts by utilising and measuring effectiveness of a suite of debt recovery tools, strategies and external agencies.

This role requires the incumbent to remain flexible within a very busy and high-pressure environment.

It is critical that requests are responded to in a timely manner and the incumbent must be able to handle competing demands of their time.

Communication is central to the role whereby the incumbent must be able to deal with people of at all levels within the organisation and build rapport with external stakeholders.

Some of your key responsibilities will include

The Debt Recovery Officer‘s responsibility is to maximise recovery against existing doubtful debts. Some of the key duties include:

Make every effort to collect outstanding debts inhouse prior to referral to third party Collection Agents.Referring new outstanding debts to Collection Agents.Providing instructions to external solicitors/agents on appropriate and timely legal action.Providing recommendations to management on bad debts write offs.Entering into negotiations and decision making in relation to settlement offers.Handling credit disputes and Resolving or escalating any issues that arise associated with the debt collection and legal process function.Deliver prompt, efficient and accurate advice to all stakeholders.Identify key internal stakeholders and build and maintain internal/external relationships.Respond to team member requests in a timely manner.

What will you bring?

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role or administrative role within a professional environment is desirable.Sound communication skills both written and verbal.Intermediate skill in the use of MS Office Software Suite.In depth knowledge of debt recovery processes within both commercial and consumer credit.Knowledge of bankruptcy/liquidation/court procedures/legal system and related matters.Proven track record in process improvement.Ability to meet business demands, deadlines, and timeframes as they arise.Ability to demonstrate initiative in identifying problems and work towards appropriate solutions.Understand impact and consequences of the risk assessment outcome.Attention to detail.Ability to learn and apply new information quickly.Minimum Diploma in Credit Management.
