Responsibilities include: Collaborating with Senior Canine and Feline Behaviour Advisors, Shelter Managers, Post Adoption and In‑Home Care Managers to manage behaviour of RSPCA NSW animals in foster homes or during large inspectorate seizures Implementing strategies and individualised care plans, liaising with the Canine Behaviour Advisor for animals under supervision Building collaborative, respectful relationships with adopters, foster carers or the public and providing empathetic support during home transitions Maintaining detailed records of calls, cases and outcomes in the digital shelter or veterinary clinic management system Conducting high‑quality remote (and in‑person) evaluations of emotional health online or face‑to‑face in‑home platforms Providing thorough evaluation of support needs of both animal caregivers and animals using a risk‑based approach, facilitating veterinary or shelter interventions as required under our duty of care Reporting and analysing information from multiple sources to monitor changes relevant to an animal’s welfare and identify potential problems Working alongside veterinary and behaviour veterinary staff to ensure continuity of care throughout all stages of animal tracking Facilitating appropriate handover with Canine Behaviour Advisor, Behaviour Veterinary Staff and Behaviour consultants for case escalation Supporting the foster care team and undertaking administrative duties as required Facilitating and supporting relationships with foster carers and recording their availability Additional duties may be assigned that are within the employee’s competence and training as determined by RSPCA NSW. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in animal science or a related discipline that includes companion animal behaviour, animal welfare; or Certificate IV in Behaviour and Training or Companion Animal Studies/Behaviour; or actively pursuing such qualification through course enrolment Current Class C driver’s licence Experience Minimum two years of relevant experience in an animal welfare facility Demonstrated ability to communicate helpfully, respectfully and to teach and guide in animal behaviour and welfare per RSPCA NSW policy Experience providing advice, support and case management (for companion animals) through phone, online chat/email and in‑person interactions Ability to read canine and feline body language, including facial expressions and vocalisations, and relate to emotional states Experience carrying out complex behaviour modification and rehabilitation programmes using humane training methods that respect animal welfare Skills Understanding of key indicators for compromised welfare in cats and dogs and recognising them in home or shelter environments Knowledge of hoarding as a mental health disorder and associated environmental conditions affecting animal intake Strong interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving skills Ability to work collaboratively in a dispersed team Capability to work under pressure while remaining calm and on task Resilience to bounce back from setbacks Applied knowledge of behaviour modification and consultation within shelter and home settings Emotional intelligence and ability to identify personal care requirements (EAP) Seniority level Entry level Employment type Other #J-18808-Ljbffr
