This opportunity may be for you DVA is seeking people who are passionate about veterans and their families, to help deliver our commemorative program - ensuring that veterans’ service is appropriately and meaningfully acknowledged and commemorated. Given the nature of the work, we are seeking individuals who love working as part of a broader team and with a range of diverse stakeholders to deliver high-profile commemorative services and projects. Our successful candidates will have strong attention to detail and be confident in providing verbal and face-to-face briefings and written communication, including to executive level staff and high office holders. The key attributes required include professional presentation, initiative, personal drive, energy and integrity. These roles may require travel (domestic and international) and work within a variety of physical environments, including standard indoor venues and outdoor settings in different weather conditions, such as grass fields, public car parking, and unsealed roads or tracks. Duties Support DVA’s commemorative program and related activities, facilitating an inclusive and positive team culture which values capability uplift and ensures employee engagement and wellbeing Contribute as a member of a team in the planning and delivery of DVA’s commemorative program across operations, governance, and ceremonial content development for distinguished and respectful commemorative services Contribute to the Team’s work in creating and reviewing historically accurate content for Ministers, executive and the community, to increase their understanding of Australian service Ensure projects meet financial and administrative regulations e.g. forecasting, paying invoices, accruals, reconciliations, government procurement in line with Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) and contract management Provide expert advice, historical, and educational content for a variety of audiences from young children to adults, adjusting our communication to suit the different reading levels Engage with stakeholders promoting and delivering DVA’s commemorative program, including Defence, Australian War Memorial (AWM), Australian Federal Police (AFP), Home Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and representatives from international governments and organisations Engage with stakeholders in the veteran community and ex‑service organisations, responding to enquiries directed toward DVA and in person during the delivery of commemorative services Eligibility Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre‑engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance Desirable Requirements Hold or be working towards a master’s or PhD qualification in history with a focus on military history or war and society as it relates to Australia Experience writing digital content (writer or strategist) with an understanding of the Australian Government Style Manual, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG2.1), and the Digital Standards Qualification and or experience applying Australian Curriculum in a classroom setting Knowledge of Australian military history and Defence ceremonial experience is highly desirable Ability to travel (domestic and international) representing the Department of Veterans Affairs across a variety of indoor venues and outdoor (all weather) settings Candidate Information Pack Opens in new window Where a non‑ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non‑ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period DVA embraces and fosters a culture that supports diversity, inclusion and respect, where people are empowered to fulfil their potential.
