Aged Care Social Visitors - NSW Central Coast Social connections are essential to everyone’s wellbeing, especially for people living with cognitive decline due to dementia. A 1:1 visit with a kind volunteer can help a person feel valued, supported, and reconnect to meaningful activities. We are looking for special volunteers who can offer their time and patience by visiting a local aged care home for companionship. The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a government‑funded program that eases loneliness and reduces social isolation for older people in residential aged care. Volunteer visitors are empathetic, compassionate, and kind‑hearted individuals who want to make a real difference. You don’t need specific dementia training, but experience with a loved one with dementia or a willingness to engage with someone with cognitive decline is helpful. Visits are for social reasons only—no personal care duties. They are scheduled on a regular basis each week or fortnight and include activities such as looking at old photos, listening to music, walking in the garden, sharing a hobby, or playing a game. Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years or older, able to commit to a minimum of 6 months, and possess a police check. An online induction training and in‑person orientation will be provided. Patience, reliability, and a heart for older people. Flexibility for hours between 9 am and 4 pm, with regular visits for an hour fortnightly. Support from an ACVVS Coordinator.
