The Role We are currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Hand to join our kitchen team. This is a casual position for an experienced, self‑motivated and passionate hospitality professional with a natural ability to build rapport quickly while remaining calm working under time restraints in a busy environment. This position will suit someone who is able to work a variety of shifts, weekends are essential as are late nights working over a 7 day roster (penalty rates will be paid in accordance with industry award). Duties include but are not limited to: Maintain a high level of workplace hygiene and safety in the kitchen and related areas. Cleaning and maintenance of cooking utensils and cutlery used in the kitchen and/or restaurants. Assist with the assembly and preparation of ingredients for cooking as required. Cleaning, sanitation and storage of all cutlery, crockery, kitchen equipment and appliances, using either industrial washing machines or hand washing where appropriate. Cleaning of walls, floors and general kitchen work spaces, adhering to cleaning schedule as prescribed for the area. Cleaning of food storage areas including fridges, cool rooms and dry goods stores, ensuring that principles of food hygiene are being observed; report any hazards or problems to Senior manager/Chief steward/Head Chef immediately. Remove rubbish regularly; ensuring the kitchen and waste areas are free of refuse. Clean industrial bins on a daily basis. Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in effective working order, report any faults or repairs required to the Management. Assist when required and liaise with chef on duty with basic food preparation; grating, peeling, chopping, preparing batters, garnishes and seasonings. Attend to guest requests efficiently, constantly striving to provide an exceptional customer experience. Follow workplace procedures with respect to grooming, performance and conduct standards, occupational health and safety, emergency procedures and all other hotel policies and procedures as detailed in the team member handbook. Ensure all food safety policies and logs are adhered to and completed daily. What we are looking for: Previous experience in a large scale Restaurant and fast paced environment. Ability to work under pressure without negative impact. Demonstrate high hygienic work practices. Hold, or ability to obtain, a Food Handlers Safety certificate (free online training available); Knowledge of the following equipment would be beneficial: deep fryer, slicing machines, stove tops and ovens, Bain‑Marie, fridge and shelving systems. Safe use and understanding of MSDS in relation to chemicals. Adhere to internal food safety program and internal WH&S policies. Excellent presentation. Available to work a variety of hours including shifts on weekends, early mornings, late evenings and public holidays. Must currently live in the Brisbane or Gold Coast area and have own reliable transport as there is no public transport to our premises. Right to work in Australia.
