Geelong High School is a Year 7 - 12 co-educational school located near the centre of Geelong "The City by the Bay", and adjacent to a significant parkland area. Established in 1910, Geelong High School is one of the oldest secondary schools in the region. It has a proud history, celebrating its centenary in 2010, and is held in high regard by the Geelong community. Current enrolment is approximately 975 students, drawn mainly from the nearby areas of East and South Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and across Geelong. The Leadership Team comprises a Principal, three Assistant Principals, the Business Manager, IT Manager and eight Leading Teachers. There are approximately 110 staff, of whom 75 are teaching staff. The school motto, VITAE NOS PARAT, which means "It prepares us for life", provides a basis for the total school curriculum, and there is a strong recognition within the school, that the various elements of the school community work in partnership to achieve optimum outcomes for all our students. Students are supported and encouraged to reach their full academic and personal potential, through innovative and engaging teaching programs such as the Geelong Positive Engagement Program (GPEP), Respectful Relationships and Reading Plus. In 2013 Geelong High School introduced Positive Education, based on the elements of positive psychology, to build a strong culture of optimism and growth mindset across the school. The Geelong High School curriculum comprises a core year 7 and 8 program (including positive education), a core and elective program across years 9 and 10, and the later years program where students may study a combination of VCE, VET, Voc Major, and Australian school-based apprenticeships (SBATs). The use of learning technologies in the classroom is a priority at Geelong High School with the school being fully 1:1 with BYOD for years 7-12. Central to the structure and operation of the school is the house system. All students are actively involved in the house system and the student management and welfare of students is centred on this structure. Student leadership is an integral part of the school culture. Leadership amongst students is actively encouraged and celebrated at all levels with students being given the opportunity to be involved in the decision making processes of the school. Leadership opportunities come from a broad range of activities such as the School Captains, SRC, House Captaincy, Band Captains and Performing Arts, Green (Sustainability) Team. Geelong High School aims to build on strong community links and to be supportive of all members of its community. Selection Criteria SC1 Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment. SC2 Demonstrated capacity to communicate and collaborate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary. SC3 A high level of organisational skills, adaptability and creativity and a demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position. SC4 Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support staff, students and parents. SC5 A commitment to professional learning and growth. SC6 Demonstrated ability to assist in the behavioural management of student(s) who present with physical and intellectual disabilities, and / or challenging (aggressive) behaviours. Role The inclusion Integration Aide position exists to provide educational support to students who are funded under Tier 2 and 3 of the Disability Inclusion funding model and at times other students identified by the School leadership in line with the Individual Education Plans of those students. Integration aides work as part of a team under the direction of the Inclusion Learning Specialist and the Inclusion Admin Coordinator, and the Business Manager. Position Purpose The position focuses on supporting students with additional learning needs as directed by the classroom teacher, with the support of the Inclusion Admin Coordinator. Integration Aides follow strategies outlined in the students Individual Education Plan and assist students in class to engage in a broad range of learning activities. The role requires experience working with students in an education setting and qualifications in education support are highly desirable. Student teachers are also encouraged to apply. Attendance requirement for this position is 30.4 hrs per week (6.08hrs per day over 5 days) and is 48/52 in line with normal school terms. Responsibilities Possess a strong understanding of the types of physical, intellectual and behavioural learning difficulties that exist in students. Assisting students on an individual or group basis. Assisting with the communication between students, teachers and parents. Particularly in relation to the students progress and learning methods. Promote a safe and supportive school environment in particular provide basic physical and emotional care of students. Providing students with clear instruction. Ensure confidentiality of records are maintained. Assist with the supervision of students during recess/lunchtime, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities, life skills. Provide basic physical and emotional care for students. Participate in team meetings to develop and implement behavioural management strategies. Assist with toileting, lifting and administration of medication if required by student. Under the direction of the class teacher participate in the monitoring and evaluation of student progress within individual learning programs. Assisting teaching staff in class. Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly clarification of instructions/other adaptations required to support the student in his/her learning. To assist with ensuring occupational health and safety regulations are met. To complete training in integration and any other relevant professional development training. Complete Performance and Development reviews, including receiving and giving feedback to. Take an active and positive role in supporting professional learning relating to the role. To undertake other duties and responsibilities within the dimensions of work level as requested by the principal or business manager. The position reports to the Inclusion Coordinator and the Business Manager.
