Role As the Operations Manager , you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Melbourne Market site. Overseeing, supervising, and coaching the operations and security functions, driving productivity, and providing day-to-day support to ensure sustainable performance and the effective and safe operations of the Melbourne Market. Upholding and ensuring a fair and consistent administration of the Market Operating Rules and demerit point system. This role may require flexible start times as the Melbourne Market site operates 24/7. The general starting time is 4am Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities Investigate incidents, offer safety recommendations, and promote safe work practices. Actively participate in developing a stronger safety culture. Manage Market Relations Team Leads and Officers. Oversee compliance with Market Operating Rules and demerit point system. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Legislation. Identify and implement operational improvements and initiatives. Review contractor invoices, contribute to procurement, and provide accurate operations reports. Implement operational education and training for Market users. Identify and implement training programs for Market Relations Officers and Team Leads. Share operational knowledge across the organization. Manage schedules and staff rosters for optimal service delivery. Provide leadership and guidance to Market Relations team members. Actively monitor and develop team members, ensuring a positive team culture. Liaise with Market stakeholders and attend client meetings. Collaborate with Facilities Management Team, vendors, and suppliers. Support Chief Operating Officer in managing relationships with key stakeholders. Melbourne Market is Victoria’s wholesale fruit, vegetable and cut flower trading centre, one of six central fresh produce markets in Australia. Operating from a new purpose built facility on a 60-hectare site at Epping, the Market provides the critical link between growers, wholesalers, retailers and the fresh produce supply chain. More than 4,000 businesses use the Market as a base, buying and selling fresh produce in the early hours of the morning for distribution across Victoria and Australia. Over 1,800 individual fruit and vegetable buyers, representing independent greengrocers, supermarkets, restaurants and food processors, source their produce direct from the Market.
