Transportation Attorney

Transportation Attorney / Litigation - Regulatory Enforcement, Commercial, Energy and Oil & Gas, Plaintiffs, Civil Rights, First Amen Lawyers (APS5 and APS6) and Senior Lawyers (Executive Level 1 and Executive Level 2) will deliver high-quality legal services in one of the organization’s three practice areas: Dispute Resolution, the Office of General Counsel, and Commercial. Practice Areas Dispute Resolution: providing dispute-related legal advice and representation across various jurisdictions in areas such as regulatory enforcement, administrative law, employment law, tort and compensation law, national security matters, tax litigation, and information access law. Office of General Counsel: legal advice across all Commonwealth activities, specializing in constitutional and public law, statutory interpretation, and constitutional litigation. Commercial: support Commonwealth agencies with legal advice on large projects and commercial transactions, focusing on areas of national importance such as energy and infrastructure projects, complex contracting arrangements, and information technology transactions. Senior Lawyers/Counsel (Executive Level 2) are responsible for professional supervision, delivering services in complex environments, and representing the organization in various forums. They are expected to have minimal supervision, manage complex legal work independently, and engage with client’s senior leadership. All roles require maintaining and strengthening professional relationships with clients, achieving outstanding client service, and contributing to the commercial business success of the legal team. Education and Experience Lawyer (APS5): at least 1‑4 years of post‑admission experience (PAE) or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. Lawyer (APS6): at least 5‑7 years of relevant PAE or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. Senior Lawyer (Executive Level 1): at least 5 years or more PAE and good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. Senior Lawyer (Executive Level 2): at least 7 years or more PAE and good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. Entry in the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia or the roll of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of a State or Territory is required. Legal experience in relevant areas and a good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment are necessary, generally 8 years or more as a practising lawyer for senior roles.
