JM TAILORED SOLUTIONS Residential / Commercial Painter Position Title: Painter / Painting Trades Worker Status: Full Time Salary: $80K - $90K Key Purpose To prepare, apply and finish paint, varnish, coatings, wallpaper and other surface finishes to protect, maintain, and decorate internal and external surfaces of buildings or structures, ensuring high quality workmanship, safety compliance, and durability of finishes. Main Duties & Responsibilities Prepare work sites — erect scaffolding or ladders, lay protective sheets/drop cloths, cover floors or adjacent surfaces to prevent paint splatter and protect surrounding areas. Inspect and prepare surfaces—remove old paint or coatings, scrape, sand, fill holes or cracks, repair woodwork or minor surface defects, seal and smooth surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of finishes. Mix and prepare paints, varnishes, stains, or other finishes to required colour, consistency, and specification (e.g. undercoat, topcoat, weather-resistant coatings). Apply paints, varnishes, stains, or surface finishes using brushes, rollers, spray equipment or other appropriate tools — for walls, ceilings, structural beams, metalwork, woodwork, and other surfaces. Hang wallpaper or apply other decorative finishes where required — including pattern matching, trimming, alignment, and finishing edges. Clean and maintain equipment, work area, brushes, spray guns, rollers and ensure safe, tidy site at all times. Assist with minor repair works where permitted — such as replacing glass in window frames, minor frame repairs, repairing or replacing damaged material in wood or metal frames, or other light refurbishment tasks if within scope. Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations — including use of protective gear, safe handling and storage of paints/coatings/chemicals, disposal of waste, and adherence to workplace safety standards. Qualifications / Skills / Experience Requirements Demonstrated experience in painting or decorating trade work, with proven competence in surface preparation and paint application. Vocational qualification (e.g. Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or equivalent trade qualification) or substantial documented on-the-job training in painting trades. Knowledge of surface preparation methods, materials, paint types, finishes and coatings; ability to assess and prepare surfaces prior to finishing. Proficiency in using painting tools — brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and scaffolding — safely and effectively. Attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and ability to produce high-quality finishes consistent with building standards. Good communication skills, ability to read work orders / specifications, follow instructions, and coordinate with other trades or clients for timely completion. Understanding and compliance with work health and safety requirements, safe handling of materials, and maintenance of clean, safe work site. Working Conditions Work may involve physical labour, frequent use of ladders or scaffolding, exposure to paint fumes or chemicals, work at different heights, and variable weather conditions (for external work). May require travel between job sites if working on multiple properties or building projects.Work hours may vary depending on project requirements — including early starts, evening or weekend work in some cases. Reporting / Supervisory Responsibilities Work under the direction of a Site Supervisor or Project Manager.
