Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Range escarpment in Australia’s Garden City of Toowoomba, Fairholme College is one of Australia’s leading independent girls’ schools with around 900 students from Kindy to Year 12. From the establishment of our predecessor school in 1908, through the move to our current location in 1917 and into the 21st century, Fairholme is committed to a student enrolment split roughly 40/60 between country boarders and Toowoomba day girls, and to single‑sex girls’ education. We invite university students studying Education students in 2026 to express their interest in an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant life of our school community. This role offers the chance to go beyond theory and gain authentic, hands‑on experience in a dynamic school environment. With the flexibility to be on campus each week, you will engage directly in the rhythms of teaching and learning, while developing the practical skills that shape exceptional educators. We are especially seeking those who feel inspired by the unique possibilities of an Independent, all‑girls’ boarding and day school – where education empowers, challenges and uplifts every learner. The ‘Step Forward’ experience is a scholarship that attracts $12000 per 12‑month period ($3000 per school term) and is available to a committed, academically focused Education student seeking to gain greater experience in an education setting through ongoing professional learning, mentorship, and practical understanding. The one‑year period will run from the point of scholarship commencement - Term 1 of the 2026 school year. An extension of the scholarship, beyond 12 months, where applicable, is possible for the right candidate/s. The recipient will gain experience by providing the equivalent of 10 hours per week term time (*90 hours per term) – the configuration of those hours to be negotiated. This may include: In‑class teacher aide work with a mentor or mentors Participation in camps or co‑curricular activities It is anticipated that through this opportunity, the scholarship recipient will be well‑placed to work within a similar setting upon graduation, or, should the opportunity arise, as a beginning teacher at Fairholme College.
