Cultural Lead – Aged Care Advocacy (Identified Position) • Permanent, full-time role commencing 19 January 2026 • $55.72 per hour + generous salary packaging options • Location: Geebung or Woolloongabba About Us ADA Australia is a statewide, not-for-profit, independent, community-based advocacy and education service, supporting and improving the wellbeing of older people and people with disability. Purpose of Role As the Cultural Lead – Aged Care Advocacy, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring culturally safe and inclusive advocacy services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the aged care sector. You’ll provide expert cultural advice to staff, clients, and stakeholders, manage a small client caseload, and travel to regional and remote communities to strengthen connections and deliver meaningful support. This position is central to shaping and delivering aged care advocacy services that align with culturally sensitive and best-practice frameworks. You will empower staff through training, knowledge sharing, and initiatives that improve access to services for vulnerable individuals, particularly in regional and remote areas. Working closely with the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) and national networks, you will contribute to the implementation of culturally appropriate advocacy services across Australia. Key responsibilities include: Apply comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, society, and kinship networks to deliver high-quality, personalised aged care advocacy. Provide mentoring and support to enhance the aged care advocacy team’s interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. Implement cultural protocols, resources and frameworks to support working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Participate in or facilitate relevant networking focus groups and internal working groups. Undertake trips to regional and remote locations to undertake education sessions and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients as required. Foster and sustain positive, trust-based professional relationships. Raise awareness of issues and policies impacting older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of related issues and deliver impactful education sessions. Effectively manage a caseload of clients in line with individual caseload requirements. Maintain and deliver accurate and timely records and reports. Other duties as directed by the Manager, Aged Care Advocacy. About you Tertiary qualification in human or community services or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training. Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island people, older people or disadvantaged/vulnerable groups and operating within a social justice framework. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply legislation, policies and procedures. Solid problem-solving skills fostering a solutions-oriented approach. Demonstrated computer literacy, with strong data entry skills and case noting. Sound interpersonal skills in relationship management, coaching and mentoring. High level communication and presentation skills to connect with diverse audiences. Ability to travel within Southeast Queensland with occasional state travel.
