1st Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic As a 1st Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic , you will be responsible for repairs to the Transdev John Holland Bus fleet. We have opportunities at our Randwick and Port Botany depots for our January 2026 intake. Your work will support the public transport industry across bus Region 9 in Sydney’s iconic Eastern Suburbs. What we offer Junior 1st year pay rate $19.70ph (includes industry allowance) A monthly rostered day off (RDO) 4 weeks paid annual leave Training on new Electric Vehicle technology Free staff bus from Central station and/or Redfern to both depots in the mornings and afternoons (departure times vary) A FREE Opal card is available for work and personal travel Paid TAFE training held at Wetherill Park Tools, boots and uniforms supplied About you Must have some proven hands‑on automotive or mechanical experience, including the use of related hand and power tools. Must have a current NSW driver’s licence (Ps accepted) and be willing to upgrade to HR driver’s licence if required. Commitment to a 4‑year apprenticeship opportunity including TAFE study at Wetherill Park. Computer literacy with the ability to record accurate maintenance information. Responsibilities Assist qualified tradespeople in the repair, service, maintenance and inspection of our fleet of buses and ancillary vehicles. Road test vehicles as required. Manage ignition engines and other systems. Diagnose brake, steering and suspension systems. Repair transmissions and drivelines. Identify, report and repair vehicle defects. Hours of work 6am‑2.30pm (Monday to Friday) Depot locations We have three depots (Port Botany, Randwick and Waverley (close to Bondi Junction)) and there will be a requirement to work at all three depots on a regular basis throughout the course of the 4‑year apprenticeship. Randwick: All day site parking available and close to public transport (bus and light rail). Port Botany: Free all-day street and site parking is available. Waverley depot: Approximately 600 metres walk from Bondi Junction train station. TAFE study is held at Wetherill Park. All successful applicants must complete a national police check and medical including drug and alcohol check. Must also supply checkable work references and work‑rights in Australia such as a passport or birth certificate.
