As a Java Developer, you will work as part of a team to deliver solutions for business and maintain current business applications.The preferred work location is Canberra/Woden, NSW/Surry Hills, VIC/Melbourne, QLD/Brisbane. You will be required to work from the applicable office at least 2 days per week.Requirements Clearance level : Must be able to obtain Baseline security clearanceLocation :QLD, ACT, VIC, NSWKey duties and responsibilities The key duties and responsibilities of the Java Developer include, but not limited to, the following: Develop software applications to meet business requirements and support Health Business Systems Branch projects/programs using Java, adhering to the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile development practices and processes.Perform code reviews, provide quality assurance, and estimate development efforts for new applications and changes to existing systems.Contribute to application/system and database design, develop and maintain system documentation, and address architectural issues to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.Participate in scrum meetings and daily stand-ups to continuously improve processes and task assignments.Collaborate closely with business analysts, testers, and stakeholders to ensure efficient and high-quality project delivery, including status reporting and defect management.Other responsibilities as requested for support purposes for the section managed applications. Facilitate knowledge transfer and upskilling within the team to ensure continuous improvement and capability development. RequirementsEssential criteria 1. Technical Expertise Proficient in Java/J2EE/JEE, Vue.JS, PrimeFaces, JavaScript, SOAP, XML, EJB 3, JPA, RESTful APIs. Skilled in using tools like IntelliJ, Maven, and Azure DevOps. Experience with relational databases and SQL.2. Application Development Full-stack development including front-end and back-end. Design, implementation, and reverse engineering of Java-based applications. Development of authenticated and unauthenticated user flows (e.g., such as MyGov, VANguard FAS). 3. Development Methodologies Strong grasp of SDLC and Agile practices.CI/CD pipeline experience. Writing JUnit test cases and technical documentation. 4. Analytical & Collaborative Skills Ability to analyse user requirements/stories and deliver minimal-defect solutions. Collaborative co-design and delivery with business stakeholders. Effective communication, initiative, and adaptability in dynamic environments. Desirable criteria 1. Relevant Java certifications or qualifications. 2. Familiarity with UX/UI standards and practices. Engagement ObjectiveCurrent Environment Overview The client’s existing Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) ecosystem has evolved over several years and now contains a substantial level of legacy customisation . Business teams, together with a third-party service provider, have delivered 70+ small to medium initiatives across the following areas: Dynamics 365 customisations Power Apps and Power Scripts Power Automate workflows Power Pages (Portals) SharePoint integrations Extensions to base tables via multiple custom columns While these initiatives delivered value at the time, the volume, fragmentation, and lack of consistent governance have resulted in a complex and difficult-to-manage environment. This complexity is now impacting agility, maintainability, scalability, and upgrade readiness of the platform. Engagement ObjectiveThe client is seeking a senior, hands-on technical and functional lead to take ownership of stabilising, rationalising, and reshaping the D365 and Power Platform landscape while ensuring continued delivery of business outcomes. Key Responsibilities1. Current-State Assessment & DiagnosisThe selected consultant will be required to: Rapidly gain a holistic understanding of the end-to-end D365, Power Platform, and SharePoint integration landscape . Assess existing customisations to determine business value versus technical and operational cost . Identify: Duplicate or unused components Fragile dependencies Upgrade and extensibility blockers Produce a clear, evidence-based assessment of the current-state architecture , documenting what exists, why it exists, and whether it should remain . 2. Business Engagement & Future-State DefinitionStrong stakeholder engagement and communication skills are essential. The consultant must: Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand true business outcomes , beyond inherited or habitual processes. Translate business requirements into platform-aligned, sustainable solutions . Constructively challenge requirements where: Standard platform capabilities are sufficient Simplification can deliver better outcomes Build trust through clear communication, prioritisation, and pragmatic recommendations. 3. Delivery Roadmap & ExecutionThe consultant will be responsible for: Developing a phased delivery roadmap that balances: Ongoing business delivery Structural remediation and technical debt reduction Defining sequencing, dependencies, resourcing requirements, and measurable milestones. Establishing governance, design standards, and ALM practices to prevent re-accumulation of complexity. Driving delivery through: Quick wins Rationalisation waves Foundational platform improvements Desired OutcomesThis engagement must deliver against two equally critical outcomes : 1. Continued Business Value DeliveryEnsure priority business initiatives continue without disruption. Deliver enhancements that clearly align to operational efficiency or customer outcomes. 2. Platform Simplification & RationalisationReduce the overall customisation footprint where standard capabilities can be leveraged. Consolidate or retire low-value or duplicate solutions. Improve platform supportability, upgrade readiness, and long-term sustainability. Required Skill Set & ExperienceThe ideal candidate will demonstrate: Deep expertise in Dynamics 365 CE / Dataverse , including enterprise-scale solution architecture. Strong Power Platform capability (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, ALM). Proven experience unwinding complex legacy environments and rationalising custom solutions. Ability to define pragmatic future-state architectures and deliver them through phased execution. Excellent stakeholder management and business analysis skills, with a track record of converting ambiguity into actionable delivery plans.
