East Gippsland Specialist School is situated in the thriving town of Bairnsdale which is also the commercial centre of East Gippsland. The town itself has pleasant wide streets set around historical, award winning, Main Street Gardens. It is the gateway to Australia’s largest and most beautiful inland waterways, the Gippsland Lakes as well as beautiful beaches and Victoria’s High Country. The environment lends itself to many leisure opportunities including fishing, sailing and boating, riding, cycling, bushwalking, climbing and skiing. The East Gippsland Specialist School was built in 2003. It now has 110 students and 52 staff with state of the art facilities, extensive IT resources and specialist sensory resources. Selection Criteria SC 1 Demonstrated knowledge and ability in coordinating the provision of evidence based, best practice speech pathology services in special education. SC 2 Demonstrated capacity to work as a part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary professional team and contribute significantly to outcomes for students. SC 3 Demonstrated ability to use a range of assessment and outcome measures to develop and evaluate intervention programs and curriculum delivery. SC 4 Demonstrated excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with and advise other professionals (internal and external) in providing services for students. SC 5 Highly developed organisational skills with demonstrated ability to work independently, utilise effective time management strategies, establish priorities and meet deadlines. SC 6 Demonstrated ability to design and deliver professional learning for teachers, education support staff and other relevant professionals, in the areas of language, communication and mealtime management. Role Conduct assessment of students in areas such as communication, alternative and augmentative communication, speech, language, swallowing/meal times and social/behavioural needs. Design and implement programs in collaboration with teachers, parents/ carers according to students individual needs and based on developmental level and age appropriateness. Document, record and accurately report on student involvement, evaluate progress and make recommendations for future programming. Provide information about special access equipment and physical barriers within the school environment as required by staff, parents/ carers. Active support of the PSD application process and Disability Inclusion process. Attend meetings eg staff, therapy and case conferences. Manage and maintain Speech Therapy resources. Responsibilities Manage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients. Effective assessment monitoring and reporting of students’ individual needs. Implement therapeutic programs through individual, small group or whole class settings. Provide support to students’ families or carers through direct and indirect means (e.g., meetings and developing/providing resources). Effective organisation management and promotion of teamwork.
