Lead programs that support the wellbeing, safety and cultural strength of Aboriginal young people Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Youth and Wellbeing Coordinator to support the delivery of culturally safe, trauma‑aware wellbeing services for Aboriginal young people and families. Under the guidance of the Youth and Wellbeing Manager, this role coordinates the daily operations of multiple youth and wellbeing programs—including SEWB, Bringing Them Home, Men’s and Women’s Groups, Community Engagement Programs and School Assistance. The role provides leadership, guidance and coordination across program activities, staff, work plans and community engagement, ensuring services are delivered in line with legislation, cultural protocols, quality standards and community needs. The Coordinator also works closely with families, Elders, schools, justice and health services to create strong pathways for young people. Please note, this role is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only. In this role, you will: Coordinate day‑to‑day operations of Njernda’s youth and wellbeing programs, ensuring services are culturally safe, timely and high quality Support and guide staff to deliver wellbeing activities, case coordination, advocacy and community engagement Maintain accurate program data, reporting, case notes, and compliance with funding, safety and legislative requirements Develop program plans, quality improvement approaches, partnerships and community‑led initiatives Build strong connections with young people, families, Elders, schools, health providers and community organisations About You: Degree in Social Work, Community Services, Youth Work or related field (or working toward) Strong knowledge of youth wellbeing, child and family services, case management and Aboriginal community needs Understanding of SEWB frameworks, the child and family sector, and trauma‑informed practice Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills Experience in staff coordination, program delivery and managing complex caseloads Selection Criteria Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or Post Graduate Qualification in Social Work, Community Services or a related field. Mental Health First Aid qualification – or willingness to obtain. Skills Demonstrated capacity and knowledge of managing intensive support programs relevant to children, youth and well‑being services. Demonstrated understanding of the Child Youth and Families Act, mental health systems and child protection procedures. Demonstrated ability to connect with Aboriginal youth, families and carers in culturally appropriate manner and understanding of issues and needs of Aboriginal families in the area. Experience in managing staff, developing strong team spirit, and managing conflict within the team. Demonstrated experience in program development and managing teams. An ability to communicate effectively and handle issues in a sensitive manner. An ability to conduct professional supervision, assess staff learning needs, review performance, and address performance management issues. Demonstrated strong written, verbal communication and computer skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and work collaboratively with partnerships with external parties. Understanding financial controls and procurement procedures required by programs and overseeing staff procurements. Experience 3 years of experience in a similar role. Satisfactory evidence of Pre‑employment checks not limited to at least two professional referees, proof of identity and qualifications, National police check, Working with Children’s Check, full Victorian driver’s license, disclosure of any pre‑existing illness / injury and vaccination status in line with Njernda’s current policy and procedure, and as applicable – eligibility to work in Australia, professional/regulatory licenses, registration and current good standing, and clearance on aged care banning orders. Desirable Work experience in regional Australia, in an Aboriginal organisation.
