Senior Engineer Power Systems

Power System Engineer contributes to the ongoing governance, modelling and analysis, operation and system integration of augmentations to the WAIO power system. The role is within the Infrastructure & Services (I&S) Electrical Governance and Technical Stewardship team.
In this highly specialised role, you will join a team of Subject Matter Experts who focus is on ongoing development and implementation of the Power System Development Framework as WAIO makes the energy transition.
Success in this role is characterised by technical leadership, engagement across broad stakeholders, critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
Reporting the Superintendent GTS – I&S Electrical, key responsibilities include contribution to:Ongoing development and implementation of the WAIO power system Technical Rules and supporting governance frameworkCentralised management, governance and development of the power system and protection system modelsMonitoring compliance to technical standardsProvision of specialised power system expertise and technical support to stakeholder groups, project teams and functionsSystem integration of renewable generation and battery energy storage systemsLead, supervise, review and undertake power system analysis using specialised computer simulation tools including PowerFactory and PSCADProtection system modelling and configuration management in PowerFactory and StationWareInterpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on augmentations required and impacts on the power systemAbout You
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical EngineeringIndustry or related experience in electricity transmission and distribution with a focus on power system modelling, analysis and operationKnowledge of synchronous generation, renewable energy generation and battery energy storage systemsDemonstrated proficiency in using power system analysis tools or relevant software (such as PowerFactory and PSCAD) and the interpretation of analysis performedExperience with protection system modelling and configuration management in PowerFactory and StationWareStrong analytical, investigation and problem solving skillsAdvanced written and verbal communication skills and good interpersonal skillsCommunicating recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersAbout Our Process
